12 Inside BUSINESS Thursday, July 27 2017 | NEW ERA Coca-Cola profits fall as it touts healthier drinks NEW YORK Coca-Cola saw profits drop sharply due to sales of bottling facilities as it moved to expand offerings of low-sugar and non-carbonated beverages amid flagging demand for sweet sodas, the company said Wednesday. Net income for the US soft drinks giant plunged 60 percent in the second quarter to .4 billion, while revenues fell 16 percent to .7 billion. Both were hit by the company’s move to offload bottling assets in North America. Sales volume grew for three of four beverage categories: juice, dairy and plant-based beverages; water, enhanced water and sports drinks; and tea and coffee. But volumes were flat in sparkling drinks. Chief executive James Quincey said Coca-Cola’s efforts to meet consumer demand for non-sweet and healthier offerings were on track. Coca-Cola Zero Sugar grew strongly in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Latin America. The company launched new orange juice products in China and expanded its “Innocent” brand of smoothies and premium juices in Western Europe. “Our performance gives us confidence that we will achieve our full year financial objectives even in the face of challenging conditions, and also demonstrates further success in evolving our portfolio to meet changing consumer tastes and preferences,” Quincey said. Shares of Coca-Cola dipped 0.5 percent to .01 in pre-market trading. – Nampa/AFP Frankfurt leads Paris in race to lure London bankers PARIS In the competition to attract bankers fleeing London due to Brexit it appears Frankfurt is beating out Paris, although experts say the race is far from run. “In the first wave of relocations Frankfurt clearly has been a step ahead of Paris, which hasn’t had much to show,” said Nicolas Veron, a fellow at the Brussels think tank Bruegel as well as the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington. Thousands of well-paid jobs are at stake as banks and other financial companies plan to move out of London some operations and staff that handle European business ahead of Britain exiting the EU in 2019. Several large international banks have already shown their interest in “Mainhattan”, the nickname given for Frankfurt’s financial district which is a stone’s throw from the river Main that flows through the city, home to the European Central Bank. Among them are US heavyweights Morgan Stanley, Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, Japan’s Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Daiwa Securities and Nomura, as well as Britain’s Standard Chartered. “But remember that Paris wasn’t really on the radar until the end of the electoral cycle this year,” said Veron. “There are structural changes underway with the new government but those are very recent and will take time to become credible.” “Some international banks already have a subsidiary or branch in Frankfurt. It is much easier to use these entities as a base than build one from scratch in an unfamiliar jurisdiction,” said one French banker on condition of anonymity. – Nampa/AFP SENIOR MANAGER: TECHNICAL SERVICES, ARCHITECTURE & PROPERTY MANAGEMENT (Head Office). 5 YEAR FIXED TERM CONTRACT. Police said the man, identified as Alexander Vinnik, headed a organisation that has allegedly laundered at least four billion dollars since 2011 using the virtual currency. He was arrested on Tuesday in the tourist resort of Halkidiki, near the northern city of Thessaloniki. According to Greek police, part of the suspect’s illegal gains came from the collapse in 2014 of Tokyo-based Bitcoin exhange Mt. Gox. A California court issued a warrant for his arrest in January, they said. Bitcoin is a virtual currency created from computer code. Unlike a real-world unit such as the US dollar or the euro, it has no central bank and is not backed by any government. Just like other currencies, bitcoins can be exchanged for goods and services -- or for other currencies -- provided the other party is willing to accept them. – Nampa/AFP DM0201700275422_GD

Thursday, July 20 2017 | NEW ERA 13 The power of Q: introducing the all-new Audi Q5 Audi South Africa has announced the introduction of the all-new iteration of its best-selling SUV, the Audi Q5. The B-segment SUV combines the sportiness of an Audi sedan with a multifaceted character and a highly flexible interior. Whether in its connectivity, efficiency or driver assistance systems - the new Audi Q5 once again sets standards in its segment. The first Audi Q5 was for many years the world’s best-selling SUV in its class. Since its international launch in 2008, it has sold more than 1.6 million units worldwide. Launched in South Africa in 2009, it has sold 11,300 units locally. Design The new SUV takes a sporty but elegant stance on the street. interior acoustics in its class. The interior offers a lot of space for five persons, and it surpasses the previous model and its competitors in key dimensions. Its horizontally oriented lines underscore the impression of width and comfort, and a three-dimensional trim strip runs across the entire width of the instrument panel. The rear seat back of the new Audi Q5 is split into three segments. Depending on the rear seat position, the basic volume of the luggage compartment ranges from 550 to 610 litres, 10 litres more than in the previous model. When the rear bench is folded down, this volume grows to 1,550 litres. Cargo loading is simplified by intelligent solutions like a standard, variably folding mat, optional sensor control always disengages the rear-axle drive whenever it is not needed, and if necessary it can proactively re-engage it. The new concept boosts efficiency without reducing traction or driving dynamics. The intelligent operating strategy permanently monitors the route, driver and driving status, and predictively distributes the drive torque to the front and rear axle. The quattro drive is already active before the activated predictively even before a driving situation such as acceleration or driving round a bend, necessitates all-wheel drive.
