Ludwig said extensive studies have been carried out and mechanisms are in place to ensure that Windhoek’s underground water reservoirs are not compromised. “People think waste management is just to come and dump waste. it’s a very complicated thing. if you look at both these cells [plants], they’ve undergone extensive studies.” he also said there are many layers of different materials that facility could be used for waste disposal. “There are multiple plastic and gravel layers to ensure that our underground water is not compromised,” he said. The hazardous waste management plant’s lifespan will run out in seven to eight years. it costs the City of Windhoek around n0,000 per month to manage the waste management site.
