Tuesday, December 12 2017 | NEW ERA SPORT 23 Naidjala outpointed by vicious Magwaca Staff Reporter Windhoek Namibia’s former WBO Inter-continental bantamweight champion Immanuel ‘Prince’ Naidjala suffered his second consecutive defeat of the year when he failed to capture the IBF Inter-continental bantamweight title, losing to South Africa’s Mzuvukile Magwaca via a unanimous points decision at the Orient Theatre in East London on Friday evening. Former WBF bantamweight champion Mzuvukile Magwaca retained his IBF Intercontinental bantamweight title on a wide unanimous 12-round points decision over Naidjala, with all three judges scoring 118-110 on all three cards to hand the homeboy a well-deserved win. Naidjala, who earlier this year lost his WBO Inter-continental bantamweight strap to South Africa’s Siboniso Gonya, struggled to handle Magwaca’s strong jab and vicious punching power. Magwaca, using his educated jab dominated throughout the heated bout, dropped the Namibian with a strong right uppercut in the 9th round on his way to an overwhelming points victory. With the win, Magwaca improved his record to 20-0-3; 11 and Naidjala’s record dropped to 23-4-1; 11. – Additional info: Supersport Unlucky... Photo: Supersport Stars wallop Tura Magic to reclaim top spot WINDHOEK Katutura giants African Stars reclaimed top spot on the MT C Namibia Premier League (NPL) log table after defeating closest rivals Tura Magic 1-0 in a thrilling encounter at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Thursday. Godwin Jena scored the allimportant goal four minutes from full time when he tapped in a cross from Aubrey Amseb in a raindrenched match. Both teams failed to play their slick passing game as conditions prevented them from doing so with Stars enjoying more possession throughout the game. Magic relied on counter attacks which proved ineffectual as the slippery conditions and a resolute defence prevented them from being successful. Both teams tried to use the conditions to their advantage, especially with set pieces, but both goalkeepers were up to the task. With the game seemingly headed for a draw, Stars upped the tempo and bombarded the Magic goal in search of a winner. In one of those attacks, they managed to get the ball out wide to Amseb, who dribbled past a visibly limping Kondjeni Kambungu before squaring the ball to Jena, who knocked the ball past a diving Mervin Kasetura. Tura Magic coach, James Britz, was gracious in defeat, saying that his side had been unlucky to play against the wind for the whole 90 minutes. “We lost to a better team today whose experience pushed them over the line. We tried to play on the counter, but conditions made it the team played,” he said. Bobby Samaria on the opposite end paid tribute to Magic, saying they had played well, despite the loss. “It was a tough match. They happy with the three points. I am disappointed on how we played though. I cannot blame the boys that much as the conditions made With the win, Stars are now two points ahead of Magic with three of the 2017/2018 NPL season. – Nampa Full NPL results: Thursday, December 7 African Stars 1-0 Tura Magic Friday, December 8 Civics 0-0 Tigers Saturday, December 9 Black Africa 1-0 Blue Waters Life Fighters 0-1 Citizens Chiefs Santos P-P Rundu Chiefs Youth Chiefs 0-2 Mighty Gunners Young African 0-0 Eleven Arrows Sunday, December 10 Black Africa 4-0 Eleven Arrows Life Fighters 1-2 Unam FC Young Chiefs P-P Rundu Chiefs Chiefs Santos 0-0 Mighty Gunners Young African 4-0 Blue Waters Orlando Pirates 2-3 Citizens Civics 0-0 Tura Magic Wet battle...
