Li, as the ad interim at the embassy, is in charge of all diplomatic business before the arrival of the ambassador-designate, who is still in China. In an op-ed piece on Thursday of this week, Li emphatically stated that China does not condone wrongdoing by its citizens in Namibia. “The Government of the People’s Republic of China and its people uphold zero tolerance to those criminals and lawbreakers, whether they are Chinese or other nationals, whether they are related to wildlife misconduct and other violations,” he said. “In recent months, we have seen overwhelming negative news coverage on China in local media, mainly focusing on a few Chinese individuals who have been involved with illegal activities regarding poaching, wildlife product trafficking, smuggling, or even economic misconduct.
